Yay!
Christmas has been exceptional this year. I love my whole family, and I'm so full of good foods and laden with great gifts. Merry Christmas, while it lasts for a couple more minutes. =) |

Nymph Sheet 2010
I've been wanting to revamp this character sheet for a while, and finally have! Made it much more simple with less text, and changed some small visual things as well as her name. I always thought that "Wolf Nymph" was awkward to say out loud, so just "Nymph" or "Nym" sounds about right. I'm also directing her design to something more bold and exaggerated, and less an attempt of a naturalistic blend between her three species (which ends up looking awkward often times). I think her wing pattern is still subject to change though. Nothing is ever solid with this character, I like having a more fluid/flexible design. It's more fun! Why no boobs? I have decided that Nymph is more like a sentient creature than a person. I want her to be more animalistic than your average anthro, but still with full human intelligence. Since canines tend not to have visible breasts unless nursing, I didn't think it was appropriate for Nymph to have a huge chest. She's got extra chest fluff instead, and retains her femanine figure otherwise, but I expect some gender confusion may occur with future uploads. There are a variety of forms Nymph can be drawn in, just because it's fun to bend reality. I'd like to sometime create an alternative sheet of common animal forms in addition to this one. |

Winter Blanket
Right now Colorado is being steadily blanketed with sparkling white powder, light and heavenly, breathtaking and cold. I am a winter gal, a snow lover, and nothing can ever change that. The cold isn't bitter, it's refreshing and stimulating. And this year, I'm getting a white Christmas. =) I've received a lot of amazing gifts this year, just from people online! I'm amazed at how many of you decided it was in your heart to draw something for me or send me something in the mail, or get me subscriptions to my favorite websites. Thank you, every single one of you. I may not ever have time to pay forward the gifts I've been given, but I just wanted you all to know how much it warms my heart. Happy Holidays folks, stay warm and be with the ones you love. <3 |

Fudge Recipe
One of my friends asked me for my fudge recipe, so I'm posting it here for all to see! My mom gave me this recipe, and this is the first year I've used it. It's actually pretty easy. Fudge RecipeButter sides of heavy 3 quart saucepan. Add 4 cups granulated sugar, one 14.5 ounce can evaporated milk, and 1 cup butter. Cook over medium heat to soft ball stage*, stirring often. Stir in one 12 ounce package of semi-sweet chocolate pieces (no imitation) till almost melted. Stir in one 7 ounce jar marshmallow creme, 1 teaspoon vanilla and 1 cup broken walnuts (optional). Beat with whisk till chocolate melts. Pour into buttered 13" X 9" X 2" pan. Score while warm and cut when firm. * Soft Ball stage - syrup can be shaped into a ball, but flattens when removed from water. Test by dripping small amounts into very cold water, then manipulating with fingers to form ball. |

Advice after a recent inquiry
Sometimes I get emails or notes from people asking me advice about how to draw, color, create good compositions and whatnot. I find this both flattering and completely silly, because I'm by no means anywhere near the top tier of talented/skilled illustrators in this world. Not even in the furry art world, which is a narrow and minuscule portion of the the industry. No, I'm not being down on myself, I'm just well aware of the mass amount of incredible artists out there whose art totally blows mine out of the water. I can't retell everything that I learned in art school and in my own experience that has brought me to where I am right now. And I also get a distinct feeling that some of the people asking me for advice are looking for whatever that magical trick is that might make them better. And there is a trick to becoming better, two in fact! Practice and observationDraw every single day, and draw from things you observe in daily life. People, plants, landscapes, buildings, objects... Study their shape, mass, outline, how light hits things, ANATOMY... squint and look hard to notice what colors things appear to be to the eye, as opposed to what color you might perceive them to be. Unfocus and sit back, see how everything comes together and how colors relate. Go outside and draw everything you see! I don't practice as much as I should, and I don't do enough life drawing exercises as I should. I admit that I'm tired from art school, and want to get down to just working. But it's time to reintroduce those things into my artistic life so I don't stagnate. I can do as many tutorials of all the things people want to see, but it still doesn't trump good ol' fashioned practice and observation. =) |

Cat Road Trip
So yesterday I road-tripped along with my friends Lauren and Crystal to Monta Vista (4.5 hours away from my apartment) to give a cat a new lease on life. Lauren had found a stray cat near her place, who had gotten into a fight and had claw wounds on his leg. Failing to find him a home with friends (most of us have taken in strays from the area and have full homes), gave him to the local shelter. There he contracted an upper respiratory infection, and while in pain, sick and in a scary place lashed out with his paw and hissed at a volunteer. To my knowledge he didn't draw blood, but they decided this was cause enough to euthanize him. Thankfully Lauren kept calling back to find out his status and found out his situation. They said they would let Lauren adopt him for $75, after much begging and debate. However, Lauren shares a home with her large dog, her room mate, and the room mate's cat. Since we didn't know if this stray was positive for any of the many feline diseases that a cat can contract as a stray, it was not safe to put him in a home with another cat. Lauren called me one evening asking if I knew of a cat rescue that would take him. I've done this sort of thing a few times before, so I started calling all the places I know of. After 11 calls to rescues and foster organizations, no one had any room! So on my 12th call, I got a hit. A woman who runs a no-kill cat rescue in Southern Colorado said she just couldn't say no. We found him a home! We just had to get him down there. So for a couple of weeks the stray (who we named Shire), bounced between a couple of kind, willing, cat-less art student homes, until Lauren had the time to drive him to his new home in Southern Colorado. We started out early yesterday morning, and made the trip pretty fast! Whitney, the woman who runs the foster organization ( called CROW Cat Rescue ) was really kind, so Shire is in a great place I think! Crystal took a bunch of pictures of him on the trip, he did great in the car. Just poked his head out every once in a while a meowed a bit, as if to say, "are we there yet?". So here are some photos of the extremely affectionate little guy! ( Shire's Trip South )Shire has been calm, affectionate, adaptable, and generally anyone's dream feline throughout this entire ordeal. I am really happy that my friends and I were able to save him from needless euthanization, he'll be someone's best friend before long. =) |

FC Badge Pre-orders CLOSED All full guys! Thanks so much, I'll have these done for everyone for FC.Hola El-Jay! I wasn't originally going to open for anymore commissions for a while, because I was doing ok as far as finances go and wanted to catch up on some stuff before taking more. However, I had to take my kitty Loaf to the vet for an emergency today, so things are looking a little less bright financially. Loaf is ok for now by the way, she's resting at home with me and recovering from the very stressful vet visit. So this isn't a financial emergency, I just need to make sure I have enough in my account should she have to go back to the vet. I'm still a bit emotional from seeing her so stressed at the vet... So I'm taking a limited number of FC2010 badge pre-orders! These badges are for pick-up only at the convention, I will have a dealer's table that you can come visit to get your badge.
